Afina, is Flickr better than instagram?

Flickr for Android is a simple but very functional photo sharing app with photo filtering/editing feature similar to Instagram and Streamzoo. I'm loving the app so far.

It's simpler than Streamzoo and still offers some cool features. What I like about Flickr for Android is that it brings my Flickr Pro account back to life. Should you answer? Read our Flickr for Android review to find out.

Flickr Resources for Android

If you're an iPhone user, Instagram is probably one of your most used apps. And then you switched to Android hoping to get the same app. Sorry to disappoint you, but you won't get it on your Android phone. Streamzoo and Flickr are Instagram-style apps, but luckily they both didn't clone Instagram.

Flickr for Android has some basic photo filters, tagging, and geo-tagging features. In fact, this is on par with what Instagram can do.

The app also has a very good sharing feature. Twitter, Facebook and Tumblr are supported and it's just a matter of authenticating the app to log into your accounts on those sites. You can also post to your WordPress blog or share via email. Do this once and it's just a matter of booking the service the next time you upload a photo and want to share it with your friends.

Of course, your friends and contacts can always see the photos you've uploaded directly to your Flickr account if they sign up to receive your updates on the site.

Using Flickr For Android

The first time you launch the app, you will need to log in to your Flickr account. You will only do this once because the next time you open the app you will be automatically logged into your account. The app's main screen displays your user account at the top and below that is your most recent account activity.

You can then select the next screen which shows your Flickr contact list. Like the Flickr web service, the list displays the most recently uploaded photos by your contacts. Then you can switch to your account view, showing your Photostream, favorite photos, sets, contacts, and contacts. You can very well tap on any of the photos in these options to explore the details of the photos.

The individual photo pages are much the same as on the Flickr web service. You will see various information such as the statistics graph of your photo activities, various comments, and various users who have marked your photos as favorites. Unfortunately, when viewing a photo, you cannot comment or like it at the same time, like Instagram and Streamzoo. You need to tap on your phone’s menu options and select “add a comment”. You will then be taken to the comments screen to add your comment. It would have been better if the app allowed you to comment or like a photo just by tapping the screen. The other menu options include sharing, downloads, and details about your photos.

The last option you can tap on is the camera icon, which will open the app's camera interface and let you start capturing photos, applying filters, and sharing your photos.

Camera Interface And Photo Filters

The app's camera interface is quite simple. You have the shutter button and on the opposite end are four icons – Flickr home button, your phone's photo gallery, flash on/off and the photo size option.

When you're ready to start, tap the shutter button and, in the blink of an eye, the app will take the photo and display it immediately. Then you will see the different photo filters available. Currently, there are 11 photo filters that you can apply to your photo. Flickr chose to name these photo filters after a city to make them different from other photo apps.
