TED: learn all about the talks app

Adverts

The TED app is a tool for browsing, downloading and watching TED Talks. This is a critically acclaimed short video that features thought leaders in technology, entertainment, design, and other topics in a speech of 18 minutes or less. You can browse featured talks, search by topic, or use the “surprise me” function to see a personalized talk playlist centered around a specific topic. The “My Lectures” page displays lectures that have been bookmarked and saved for listening or viewing offline.

Is TED a good app?

The TED app provides excellent access to the TED Talk Library and is a great way to discover talks on a variety of topics by a variety of speakers. Topics and tags are broad and thought-provoking, accessibility features such as titles are very extensive, and some lectures are available in over 50 languages. This app provides great access to a wealth of free content, but opportunities for deeper sharing or participation are limited. It seems convenient to download videos for offline viewing until an hour of content consumes 1GB of device storage space.

Parents and teachers should use it

Parents need to know that this app gives children and parents the opportunity to explore and watch videos of the famous TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design) conferences, which bring together interesting speakers from all walks of life. Scientists, doctors, musicians, professors and more share their experiences and knowledge on a variety of generally engaging topics. You can browse all the videos in the TED conference collection and save audio or video for offline viewing, and there's no way to log in or communicate with others in the app (although parents can definitely have their own discussions with their kids in almost any topic).
